Even though the name suggests that the ovaries are central to disease pathology, cysts are a symptom instead of the cause of the disease. Some symptoms of PCOS will persist even if both ovaries are removed; the disease can appear even if cysts are absent. Since its first description by Stein and Leventhal in 1935, the criteria of diagnosis, symptoms, and causative factors are subject to debate. Gynecologists often see it as a gynecological problem, with the ovaries being the primary organ affected. However, recent insights show a multisystem disorder, with the primary problem lying in hormonal regulation in the hypothalamus, with the involvement of many organs. The name PCOD is used when there is ultrasonographic evidence. The term PCOS is used since there is a wide spectrum of symptoms possible, and cysts in the ovaries are seen only in 15% of people.[33]
But mostly if food requires more preparation than sticking a spoon into ice cream containers or tearing open a bag of chips, Luna can't prepare it. So I can see her using rice she could use in a meal because she is starving every other day because ain't no way is that girl gonna cook rice. She'd probably nod off in the middle and burn down the house so it is probably a net good she's about to give Pat a toe-cheesy sock full of possibly contaminated rice.
Now, you can have temporal lobe epilepsy with only absence seizures, which are hard to distinguish from nodding off, besides, sea creature is out of it half the time so wouldn't notice anyway. Plus, the shitload of benzos she's taking might actually inhibit seizures. She might have had seizures she only registered as emotional changes, and started to self medicate with benzos,
The first search revealed ten herbal medicines with a demonstrated mechanism of reproductive endocrinological effect for the whole herbal extract in PCOS, oligo/amenorrhoea and hyperandrogenism. These were Cimicifuga racemosa, Cinnamomum cassia, Curcuma longa, Glycyrrhiza spp., Matricaria chamomilla, Mentha piperita, Paeonia lactiflora, Silybum marianum, Tribulus terrestris and Vitex agnus-castus. Herbal medicines with a demonstrated mechanism of effect were entered as key terms in the second search.

Weight loss is also a key first step if you’re planning a pregnancy. It may improve your ability to get pregnant by restoring ovulation3 or make your body more responsive to fertility treatments if that is what is determined you need. In fact, up to 75 percent of women with PCOS who were able to reduce their body weight also had better glucose control and improved androgen hormone levels, helping to restore ovulation and fertility,2,3 experts say.
Human speak: Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is one of the most common female reproductive disorders; affecting approximately 10% or more of women worldwide. PCOS is a big deal because it can lead to infertility and other health problems. The common symptoms associated with PCOS are irregular or no periods and anovulation (meaning you don’t ovulate, or ovulate rarely), increases in androgen hormones (like testosterone) and luteinizing hormone (which usually kicks off ovulation, but is persistently high in women with PCOS), and in some cases, insulin resistance and obesity. There is currently no “cure” for PCOS, just management of symptoms.

Dandelion Root (Taraxacum officinale): This herb is an effective liver detoxifier and bile flow stimulant. It is used to cleanse the liver and get rid of any build-up of hormones. This clean up can stimulate the production of SHGB which also means free testosterone in the blood is decreased.7 Dandelion root is used for PCOS treatment because menstrual irregularities are often affected by the liver being backed up with excessive hormones.

For some, lifestyle changes may be all you need to control the symptoms of your PCOS. But for many other women, medications may be necessary to help control harder to manage symptoms, such as fertility, and major risk factors that arise with polycystic ovary syndrome, specifically insulin resistance that leads to diabetes and high blood cholesterol that may end up developing into heart disease.
Other insulin sensitizing agents have been advocated and studied for the treatment of IR in PCOS, principally thiazolinediones. Thiazolinediones stimulate gene transcription that alters lipid and glucose metabolism, decreases lipolysis and decreases fat deposition[90]. Thiazolinediones decrease fatty acid release, suppress gluconeogenesis and reduce tumor necrosis factor α disruption of insulin activity[64]. Pioglitazone and rosiglitazone have decreased IR (measured by clamp studies) in PCOS women[90-93]. Glitazones have also decreased IR by OGTT AUC-Insulin in PCOS women[91,93,94]. In patients with DM, thiazolinediones reduce central adiposity[95], a trait commonly shared with PCOS women. Pioglitazone by way of IR and adiponectin levels also has improved menstrual regularity in PCOS women[96,97]. Adverse outcomes have been seen in pregnant animals with limited to no human data. Therefore, as a class, thiazolinediones are not considered first line therapy for PCOS women seeking pregnancy. Rosiglitazone has even been found to decrease pro-inflammatory markers in human granulosa cells cultured following in vitro fertilization oocyte retrieval, thus showing additional target tissue for therapy[98]. However, these effects have not been adequately studied and have no current practical application.

Insufficiently powered to correctly identify the effects; 377 participants were required (±5%, 95% confidence).

Results of a second study by the same research team offer doctors a clear strategy to help you lose weight.5 According to this study at Penn State Health in Philadelphia, patients who worked with their physician to follow a limited fat, low calorie diet (~1200 calories) by relying on low-calorie prepared meals (eg, SmartOnes, Lean Cuisine or Healthy Choice) and an appetite suppressant with meals and making lifestyle changes plus added fruits and vegetables.4
Agreed, sounds like a bunch of insecure teenagers trying to tear people down for things they can't help so they can feel better about their own misshapen bodies. Luna is shitty enough of her own accord; no need to get all up in arms over things that she has no control over when she doesn't even pretend to be a flawless aphrodite like many of the cows here. It's just self-serving tryhardery at that point.
Sylvia Rebecca - "I have to share how good I feel since joining this program. I have been on it for 3 weeks. I take the supplements faithfully, started working out, eat better and drink half my body weight in water. My mood swings are better and I just feel happier. For the last 3 years I have been depressed and did not want to do anything, but look at me now. I am hoping that my period will start soon. This is the next step for me. I do not get a period without taking Provera. You guys are also an amazing group of women and so happy to be on this journey with all of you. A NEW ME!!!!!!"

You can lose weight by exercising regularly and having a healthy, balanced diet. Your diet should include plenty of fruit and vegetables, (at least five portions a day), whole foods (such as wholemeal bread, wholegrain cereals and brown rice), lean meats, fish and chicken. Your GP may be able to refer you to a dietitian if you need specific dietary advice.
Methadone is said to not get people "high," but I beg to differ. It doesn't give any of the euphoria that heroin does, nor the rush, but it definitely has a body high to it. I've never taken a dose of methadone over 30mg (which is a typical maintenance dose, btw) and got so high off that I couldn't walk straight. Mentally I was nearly clear though. Maybe Lurch likes feeling physically retarded and it takes him 130mg to get there? Who knows.
the last time luna deleted her blog, before she remade the one she has now, i googled her name because i couldn't find her blog and i wanted to see if she had another one, her lolcow page was like the 3rd result and i read every single thread within a few days. so, lolcow may only be the first google results to people who use lolcow BECAUSE they use lolcow, but for me, someone who had never even heard of the site before, it was still one of the first results. people who google her name never visiting lolcow before will still see these threads.
Evidence for Tribulus terrestris, Glycyrrhiza spp. alone and in combination with Paeonia lactiflora and Paeonia lactiflora with Cinnamomum cassia was limited by the volume of laboratory and animal studies, with only one to two studies found for each herb or herbal combination. There was supporting clinical data, however many were small single arm, open label studies measuring endocrine effects in healthy women. Evidence for these herbal medicines is preliminary and in an emergent phase.

Clinically speaking, the hyperandrogenism seen in PCOS is associated with hirsutism more than acne or alopecia and therefore hirsutism is an impetus for young women seeking care[2]. Many PCOS women are also overweight (BMI > 25kg/m2) or obese (BMI > 30kg/m2), although adiposity is not a defining criteria for PCOS. Obesity is highly prevalent in the general population and in PCOS women and is an independent risk factor for CAD[3]. Obesity in adolescents is correlated with insulin resistance (IR) and dyslipidemia[4]. PCOS related ovulatory dysfunction in adolescents often correlates to adolescent obesity[5]. Genetic predisposition to PCOS has been suspected for many years[6] and data link obesity and metabolic disturbances in PCOS with genetic polymorphisms[7,8]. Even male first degree relatives of women with PCOS have a higher incidence of metabolic syndrome (MS), the closest corollary to PCOS in men[9].
Metformina.
Not all women with PCOS have difficulty becoming pregnant. For those that do, anovulation or infrequent ovulation is a common cause. Other factors include changed levels of gonadotropins, hyperandrogenemia and hyperinsulinemia.[89] Like women without PCOS, women with PCOS that are ovulating may be infertile due to other causes, such as tubal blockages due to a history of sexually transmitted diseases.

Diet, exercise, and maintaining a healthy body weight may help many women manage the symptoms of PCOS. These lifestyle changes are recommended to help decrease insulin resistance. Weight reduction can also decrease testosterone, insulin, and LH levels. Regular exercise and healthy foods will help lower blood pressure and cholesterol as well as improve sleep apnea problems. Refraining from smoking cigarettes or other tobacco products also may lower androgen levels.
This review has some limitations. We used a methodological approach which was deductive and not consistent with traditional rationale for herbal selection. Our inclusion criteria for clinical studies were specific and relied upon our identification of herbal medicines with preclinical (laboratory based) evidence explaining the mechanisms of reproductive endocrinological effects in oligo/amenorrhoea, hyperandrogenism and PCOS. Clinical studies were excluded from this review due to the absence of evidence for whole herbal extracts. This was the case for Camellia sinensis (green tea) for which only one laboratory study investigated the effects of injecting epigallocatechin, a catechin found in green tea in animals [76]. High quality clinical evidence for Camellia sinensis was not presented in this review due to the absence of pre-clinical data explaining the mechanism for effect for the whole herbal extract [77]. Mentha spicata (spearmint) was another herbal medicine excluded from this review despite the availability of high quality clinical evidence demonstrating testosterone lowering effects in women with PCOS [78]. We found no laboratory evidence describing the mechanism of action for Mentha spicata in hyperandrogenism. Camilla sinensis and Mentha spicata are examples of herbal medicines excluded from this review due to not meeting the inclusion criteria. Studies investigating western herbal medicines excluded from this review are provided in Tables 3, ,44 and and55.
If I were the nurse I wouldn't fucking care either. When an insane person or an addict is shitting and pissing all over the floor, all they can do is give them a bucket, qurantine them and clean it up after they're done. Nurses are human, plenty of them gag at the smell and sight of shit and vomit, just like everyone else. Just because they clean it up doesn't mean they enjoy doing it.

Why treat IR in PCOS women? For many years only PCOS women with DM were treated. As the link between IGT and CAD became more apparent, many PCOS women with IGT were treated. We now understand that IR is often the first step in a progression to DM and CAD. Those who now advocate treatment for IR do so for the following reasons: reduction of insulin and androgen levels, prevention of IGT and DM, potential for improved ovulation, symptomatic improvement, prevention of MS[63]. Ultimately, secondary prevention in young women with identifiable and treatment precursor conditions is far more desirable and easier than treatment of these same women later in life with serious disease.
The long-term prognosis of Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome is confirmed by reproductive endocrinologist, Dr. Walter Futterweit, who says: “It’s not just there when you’re trying to have your children. And even into the ages of 40s, you still can have the irregular cycles and the excess androgens. Some of the long-term complications are things that are going to be manifest as the person gets older. So it’s not just a here, there for a few years. It’s pretty much a lifetime illness.”3
This was originally developed as a blood pressure medication and diuretic for hormonal forms of high blood pressure (hypertension) and fluid retention. “Turns out, in high doses, it’s very good at blocking male hormones,” explains Dunaif. For that reason, it’s used to target excess hair growth, a symptom of PCOS that can be particularly embarrassing.
The prevalence of depression in women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is high; a study has shown it to be four times that of women without PCOS. Therefore, systematic evaluation of the effectiveness and safety of antidepressants for women with PCOS is important. We found no evidence to support the use or non‐use of antidepressants in women with PCOS, with or without depression. Well‐designed and well‐conducted randomised controlled trials with double blinding should be conducted.

It is thought that insulin resistance may be a key factor in PCOS. Insulin helps transport glucose into the body's cells. where it is needed for energy production. When there is resistance to insulin's effect, the body tries to compensate by making even more insulin and releasing it in the blood (hyperinsulinemia). Some believe that too much insulin may cause the ovaries to increase androgen production, which in turn causes the symptoms associated with PCOS.
There are also experts who suggest taking more of a lifestyle treatment approach rather than medication, which some call a “Band-Aid” to symptoms. One such expert is Amy Medling, a certified health coach who is founder of PCOS Diva and author of Healing PCOS: A 21-Day Plan for Reclaiming Your Health and Life with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome. She stresses that some women don’t feel well on some of these drugs (she was one of them), so looking at other ways to manage PCOS will get them to a more balanced place. “I hear from many women who are frustrated and hopeless and feel underserved by the mainstream way of managing PCOS,” says Medling.
Oral contraceptives (birth control pills) contain a combination of hormones (estrogen and progesterone). Used properly, oral contraceptives can ensure that women with PCOS menstruate every four weeks. This, in turn, lowers the risk of endometrial cancer, which is higher in women with PCOS because they do not menstruate regularly and properly shed the endometrial lining.

Research shows over and over again that managing your weight, even shedding a small percentage of your excess pounds (ie, abdominal fat) and exercising regularly can improve symptoms such as irregular periods and infertility, and improve the effectiveness of medications used to help manage your glucose and improve insulin resistance in polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).

... In this PCOS model, spontaneous ovulation occurs after the bilateral section of the SON and the androgens concentration in the ovary is normalized [20][21][22]. Parra et al. [26] showed that in addition to ovarian NE concentration increases, EV-treated rats also show an increase in VIP concentra- tion, which could stimulate the onset of PCOS. This is possible, since ovaries of rats with PCOS cultivated in the presence of VIP release higher amounts of androgens and oestradiol than ovaries of rats without the syndrome. ...

A secondary analysis of two randomized, double blind, placebo-controlled trials that included 182 children of mothers with PCOS reported that children exposed to metformin had higher BMI and increased prevalence of overweight/obesity at 4 years of age. The study found that at 4 years of age, the metformin group had higher weight z-score than the placebo group; difference in means 0.38 (0.07 to 0.69), p=0.017, and higher BMI z-score; difference in means 0.45 (0.11 to 0.78), p=0.010. There were also more overweight/obese children in the metformin group; 26 (32%) than in the placebo group; 14 (18%) at 4 years of age; odds ratio (95% CI): 2.17 (1.04 to 4.61), p=0.038. More studies are needed to examine this association. [94]
“My doctor mentioned that one day I might have trouble getting pregnant, but didn’t offer any other information about the disorder,” Nirichi said. Other than the absence of her period, PCOS did not significantly impact her life until college, when she began experiencing shooting pains in her pelvis, mood swings, and rapid weight gain despite a rigorous exercise routine.

Saw Palmetto (Serenoa repens, Sabal serrulata) This herb has anti estrogenic effects and also has been found to decrease the testosterone levels in the blood. Both effects are very positive for women with PCOS .9 The herb has properties that can block the process of testosterone turning into DHT (dihydrotestosterone, a by-product of testosterone) which in turn lowers male hormones in the body.

Unfortunately, awareness of the condition is not widespread and many physicians do not perform the necessary diagnostic tests or recognize that PCOS has broad and potentially devastating consequences. According to the non-profit support organization, PCOS Challenge, Inc., PCOS awareness and support organizations receive less than 0.1 percent of the government, corporate, foundation, and community funding that other health conditions receive.

Often, women with PCOS tend to put on weight easily and have difficulty losing weight. This is because women with PCOS are thrifty with calories. If they eat too much, extra insulin is needed to dispose of the extra sugar. Sadly, this tendency can also increase the risk of diabetes. This is more likely in those with a family history of adult-onset diabetes. Women with PCOS are more likely to develop high blood pressure and diabetes during pregnancy, particularly if they are overweight and have higher than normal insulin levels.

This thread fucks me up. I feel so much pity and sadness for this poor girl. Sort of hits close to home, when I turned 18 I moved in with a boy and got really sick and hooked on drugs for 2 years. I left him and got better, never did I ever get as bad as Luna but it could have happened had I been complacent like she is. I hope she finds the courage to leave. I think there's still beauty and potential underneath all the grime and illness, I even like her art sometimes and wish she'd spend more time on her paintings instead of on drugs. Lurch should be in prison for destroying this poor girl before she even had a chance. Sage for blog post.(USER HAS BEEN PUT OUT TO PASTURE)
Couples with infrequent sexual intercourse may experience some benefit from the use of kits for ovulation monitoring (urinary luteinizing hormone excretion); however, this technique can underestimate the fertile window. The evaluation of cervical mucus throughout the menstrual cycle demonstrated similar efficacy to urinary kits for monitoring the ovulation and high rates of false positives in cycles are noted using the hCG 24. Thus, this method has not been routinely used in clinical practice, mainly when US is available.
That pic in the last thread with her collarbones made me laugh so much. Bitch has her arms bent at an awkward angle behind her back you can see where the neck squashes awkwardly on her shoulder because of the abnormal way shes twisting and sticking her neck out. Imagine being a fly on the wall at hers (one of the many) and seeing her take a selfie like that kek
Side effects: This herb is safe for short term use and can cause digestive issues or possible a rash when in contact with the skin. You should not take this herb if you have any type of bleeding disorder because it might slow the process of blood clotting. Peony is also not recommended for women who are pregnant because it might cause uterine contractions.

High levels of insulin. Insulin is a hormone that controls how the food you eat is changed into energy. Insulin resistance is when the body's cells do not respond normally to insulin. As a result, your insulin blood levels become higher than normal. Many women with PCOS have insulin resistance, especially those who have overweight or obesity, have unhealthy eating habits, do not get enough physical activity, and have a family history of diabetes (usually type 2 diabetes). Over time, insulin resistance can lead to type 2 diabetes.
