Pioglitazone (Actos®) and Rosiglitazone (Avandia®) are insulin-sensitizing agents that improve glucose tolerance and insulin resistance. These drugs are approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of diabetes. Although they are not approved for treatment of PCOS, they have been shown to be effective for this purpose in many studies.
Complementary medicine (CM) use by women has increased during the past ten years [7–11] with rates of use ranging between 26% and 91% [8, 9]. One of the popular types of CM is herbal medicine [11, 12]. Herbal medicines are known to contain pharmacologically active constituents with physiological effects on female endocrinology and have been positively associated with reduced incidences of breast cancer, osteoporosis and cardiovascular disease [13–18].
Acne: Birth-control pills, anti-androgen drugs and insulin-sensitizing drugs, all mentioned above, can bring the severe acne of PCOS under control by reducing the high levels of male hormones that trigger bad break-outs in PCOS. In addition, your family doctor or dermatologist may recommend additional acne medications to unclog pores, control skin bacteria and soothe inflammation. These may include retinoids, antibiotics, and products to help unclog pores. One warning: Retinoids can cause birth defects and cannot be used if you are already pregnant or are planning to become pregnant.
130mg of methadone?!!!! That's 520mg morphine. That's an insane dosage even for someone with tolerance - I have been on high dose opioids for pain for a decade and I'm scraping 250mg morphine equivalent dose. For context: the equivalent fentanyl patch would be 250mcg per hour strong. Even people with severe pain from tumours get by on no more than 100-150mcg per hour.
One note: “It takes about six months before the effect of these medications are seen on hair growth,” says David A. Ehrmann, MD, director of the University of Chicago Center for PCOS in Illinois. (This is because one hair growth cycle takes two to three months.) “When patients don’t know that, they get frustrated when they don’t see results quickly,” he says. Talk to your doctor about what you can realistically expect and when.
Ask your health care provider about a weight loss plan if you are overweight. If you’re overweight, losing weight may lessen some of the symptoms of PCOS. Talk to your health care provider or nutritionist about healthy ways to lose weight such as exercising more and following a nutrition plan that helps manage insulin levels. Healthy eating can also keep your heart healthy and lower your risk of developing diabetes.
I feel like you're confused, which is fair Luna can be all over the place and cryptic. Her father in law type guy had hella health issues last year which was her main excuse for most of her e-begging when it was at its height. From my understanding he has some drinking issues and he and Lurch get in a lot of fights, but he's not a crackhead and it's not nice (I know this isn't a place where people come to be nice) to call sick old men gross.
Although these agents have shown significant efficacy in clinical trials (for oral contraceptives, in 60–100% of individuals), the reduction in hair growth may not be enough to eliminate the social embarrassment of hirsutism, or the inconvenience of plucking or shaving. Individuals vary in their response to different therapies. It is usually worth trying other medications if one does not work, but medications do not work well for all individuals.
Once a diagnosis of PCOS is confirmed, it is imperative to assess women for CAD risk factors. Despite the many reasons women seek medical care for PCOS, the greatest long term risk for these women is CAD. This is generally not viewed or even recognized as a concern by women seeking care in the first place. The link between PCOS and CAD is multi-faceted. C-reactive protein (CRP) is higher in age matched PCOS women and is linked to BMI with some ethnic variation in this risk. The prevalence of MS in PCOS women is as high as 40% with increased prevalence of hypertension, dyslipidemia and abnormal glucose metabolism, all before age 30. PCOS women aged 20-40 already demonstrate poor vascular function measured by brachial artery vascular flow. No single blood test can predict or quantify this CAD risk. Although no standard recommendation for assessment of CAD risk factors exists, measurement of glucose metabolism, blood pressure screening, lipid screening and carotid intimal media thickness measurements have been suggested.
On the topic of Chief, I've been wondering why she's so into him and was attracted to him in the first place. He's just a dirty, ugly, boring, almost middle-aged man, whereas there are tons of younger male junkies who look and act the part of ~tortured artiste~ and would match her aesthetic and desired lifestyle much better. What's the deal? Why Chief? Is he just the first guy who came along who'd shoot her up, and now she just can't be bothered to find someone better?
Unfortunately, awareness of the condition is not widespread and many physicians do not perform the necessary diagnostic tests or recognize that PCOS has broad and potentially devastating consequences. According to the non-profit support organization, PCOS Challenge, Inc., PCOS awareness and support organizations receive less than 0.1 percent of the government, corporate, foundation, and community funding that other health conditions receive.
Why does she act like everyone is either rich or dirt poor… She complains about being hungry than regularly spends $50+ on Amazon shit instead of food… Some people can live in big houses but still have to budget. Being clean and somewhat functional of a human being doesn't make someone rich & privileged. Using opportunities instead of squandering them doesn't mean being privileged. It's called not being a sack of lazy shit like you, Tuna.
PCOS is due to a combination of genetic and environmental factors. Risk factors include obesity, not enough physical exercise, and a family history of someone with the condition. Diagnosis is based on two of the following three findings: no ovulation, high androgen levels, and ovarian cysts. Cysts may be detectable by ultrasound. Other conditions that produce similar symptoms include adrenal hyperplasia, hypothyroidism, and high blood levels of prolactin.
